Paste & Purge Terms of Service
Please read these Terms of Service carefully before accessing or using Paste & Purge. By creating an encrypted link, viewing a secret, or using this website, you agree to be bound by these terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Paste & Purge ("we", "us", "our", or the "Service"), accessible at pasteandpurge.com. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not access or use the Service.
2. Description of the Service
Paste & Purge is an ephemeral encrypted text transmission utility designed to facilitate one-time or strictly view-limited transfers of passwords, credentials, API keys, and sensitive text.
- Client-Side Encryption: Text is encrypted in the user's browser using the Web Crypto API (AES-256-GCM) prior to transmission.
- Zero Plaintext Knowledge: The service does not have access to the decryption key (stored in URL hash fragments) or the user's plaintext content.
- Ephemeral Storage Only: Stored ciphertext records are temporary and are permanently deleted automatically when the designated view count is reached or the expiration time elapses.
- No Account Requirement: The service is provided without account registration, email collection, or subscription credentials.
3. Nature of Ephemeral Data & No Data Recovery
This service is designed specifically for data destruction. Paste & Purge is NOT a permanent storage solution, cloud backup, or file archiving service:
- Once a secret reaches its maximum view limit (e.g., 1 view) or passes its expiration time (5m, 15m, 1h, 24h), it is permanently purged from our database.
- Because we do not possess the decryption key and do not retain backups of purged records, it is technically impossible for us to recover, retrieve, or restore any burned secret.
- You agree that Paste & Purge bears no responsibility or liability for the loss of any information submitted to the service. You must maintain separate primary copies of any critical credentials.
4. User Responsibilities & Acceptable Use
You agree to use Paste & Purge only for lawful purposes. You are strictly prohibited from using the Service to:
- Transmit malware, viruses, trojans, ransomware payloads, or malicious scripts.
- Facilitate unauthorized access, hacking, or compromise of any computing system, account, or network.
- Distribute illegal, defamatory, harassing, abusive, or infringing material.
- Conduct distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, brute-force spamming, or automated scraping that disrupts our infrastructure.
- Attempt to circumvent API rate limits, payload size constraints (10,000 characters), or security controls.
We reserve the right to rate-limit or block IP addresses that engage in automated abuse or disrupt the service.
5. Technical Limitations & Endpoint Security
You acknowledge that the security of secret transmission depends critically on factors outside our control:
- Recipient Retention: We have no control over what a recipient does with a revealed secret. The recipient may copy, screenshot, transcribe, or forward the decrypted plaintext.
- Delivery Channel Security: You are responsible for safely transmitting the generated link to your recipient. If you send the link through an insecure or intercepted channel, an unauthorized party could access and burn the secret.
- Device Integrity: Client-side cryptography cannot protect against malware, keyloggers, rogue browser extensions, or screen capture utilities on the sender's or recipient's device.
6. Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, ACCURACY, TIMELINESS, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, DEFECT-FREE, OR SECURE FROM UNFORESEEN HARDWARE OR NETWORK FAILURES.
7. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL PASTE & PURGE, ITS OPERATORS, OR AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.
8. Changes to These Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the Service following the posting of changes constitutes acceptance of those changes.
